Oprah, author Kathy Freston, artist Greg Lauren and his wife Elizabeth Berkley joined some school children at Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership Academy in South Africa today (June 19) where actress Thandie Newton is to teach acting to a female class.

Of the weeklong festival, in which the girls take part in acting, photography and fashion design workshops, Thandie says: “I am really looking forward to it as its such a great scheme and its nice to give something back.”

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls near Johannesburg was established in 2007 after the TV host answered a plea from Nelson Mandela.

The lavish $40 million school aims to discover, teach and inspire young South African girls to become a new generation of leaders.
